KARAKTERISTIK DAN KERENTANAN DEFORESTASI DI SUB DAS KESUNGAI

Di Indonesia, potensi deforestasi akibat perladangan berpindah dan pertanian skala kecil diperkirakan akan cukup tinggi sampai beberapa tahun ke depan. Beberapa penelitian terkait deforestasi akibat perladangan berpindah dan pertanian skala kecil menyimpulkan bahwa ada korelasi yang nyata antara deforestasi dengan keterjangkauan (accessibility) dan kemiringan lereng. Penelitian tentang analisis keruangan (spatial analysis) deforestasi ditunjukkan untuk mendapatkan informasi karakteristik serta kerentanan deforestasi secara keruangan di Sub DAS Kesungai, Kabupaten Paser, Kalimantan Timur, dalam hubungannya dengan faktor aksesibilitas dan topografi lahan. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan bantuan program ILWIS (Integrated Land and Water Information System), sebuah program analisis keruangan berbasis GIS (Geographic Information Systems) & Remote Sensing. Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa secara keruangan besarnya deforestasi dipengaruhi oleh kemudahan dijangkau dan kondisi topografi. Semakin dekat lahan hutan dengan perkampungan, jalan dan sungai serta semakin datar topografi, maka potensi deforestasi akan semakin besar
