Stabilisasi Dimensi Kayu Shorea retusa Meijer Dengan Poly Vinil Acetate (PVAc)

Abstract


Peningkatan kebutuhan akan kayu menyebabkan digunakannya kayu-kayu berdiameter lebih kecil dan berasal dari jenis-jenis kayu kurang dikenal, misalnya Shorea retusa Meijer. Kayu berdiameter kecil yang berasal dari pohon yang berumur muda cenderung memiliki sifat yang kurang begitu baik, salah satunya adalah memiliki dimensi yang kurang stabil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman S. retusa Meijer dalam PVAc untuk proses stabilisasi dimensi dengan konsentrasi larutan PVAc 25,0 g/L, 37,5 g/L dan 50,0 g/L, serta lama perendaman, yaitu 1, 2 dan 3 hari. Parameter yang diukur adalah penyusutan longitudinal, tangensial, radial dan ASE (Anti Shrinkage Efficiency). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kayu S. retusa Meijer yang direndam dalam larutan PVAc dengan konsentrasi 25 g/L selama 3 hari memberikan nilai scoring tertinggi dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya.
